Century Plus One LCD-8000UD mini-display with USB and DVI [Updated]

Century have announced an update to their range of USB LCD companion displays, in the shape of the Plus One LCD-8000UD.  Ostensibly identical in functionality to last December's LCD-8000U, the 8-inch 800 x 600 display now includes DVI as well as USB connectivity.

That port addition now means that you can choose the flexibility of using a USB connection, which relies on the DisplayLink virtual graphics adapter, or the reduced CPU impact of a normal DVI output.  While DisplayLink means no secondary video output is necessary, thus making for a more convenient connection, the software required can cause underpowered machines to slow down even further.

It also means that the LCD-8000UD is plug-and-play compatible with any machine that has a DVI port, rather than demanding software be installed.  The Century Japan Plus One LCD-8000UD is set to launch in August, priced at around 16,500 yen ($174).Update: It seems the DVI connection is actually an output, not an input.  The LCD-8000UD still connects to a host computer via USB, but it can now be used as a USB-to-DVI video card for hooking up a much larger display.  That's arguably far more useful than dual inputs on a sub-display; however it's worth remembering that, when a DVI display is used, the 8-inch LCD itself won't be active.
