Canon VIXIA HD camcorders get 24Mbps bit-rate recording update

Canon has announced three new camcorders in their high-definition VIXIA range, including both flash-based and HDD-based models.  The flash camcorder is the VIXIA HF11, which combines an internal 32GB solid-state drive with an SDHC slot for expansion.  The two hard-drive based models, however, are the VIXIA HG20 and VIXIA HG21, with 60GB and 120GB storage respectively, together with an SDHC slot.  All three camcorders have 24Mbps bit rate recording for enhanced detail, finer tonal gradation and improved reproduction of moving subjects.

Canon's own high-definition CMOS sensor takes center-stage, while there's also the company's DIGIC DV II Image Processor. Each new VIXIA camcorder has Instant AutoFocus and SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization, and records in full 1920 x 1080 HD. Conveniently footage stored on an internal drive can easily be swapped over to SDHC card.

Available in September, the Canon VIXIA HF11 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder, and VIXIA HG21 and VIXIA HG20 Hard Disk Drive camcorders will have a suggested selling price of $1199, $1299, and $949, respectively. All models come bundled with Pixela ImageMixer 3SE video editing software, supporting Blu-Ray disk burning.
