Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II arrives with large sensor, compact body
Among the other cameras Canon has unveiled tonight, the camera maker has taken the wraps off its new PowerShot G1 X Mark II, an update over the previous model that offers photographers a compact body with a larger-than-average image sensor and 12.8-megapixels. We've got the full specifications for you after the jump.
Says Canon, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II features an image sensor that is 4.5 times larger than the common pro-level point and shoot image sensor size of 1/1.7-inches. With this sensor comes 12.8-megapixels, as well as an ISO range of 100 to 12,800 and high-sensitivity. All of it is powered by a DIGIC 6 image processor and Canon's HS SYSTEM.
With the camera comes f/2.0 to f/3.9 5x optical zoom lens with Dual Control Rings, allowing for the isolation of subjects and a level of control akin to what you'd get with a DSLR. There's both a Step Ring and a Continuous Ring, and an option for manual shooting. Rounding it all out are 31 auto focus point, a 3-inch tilt LCD, and integrated WiFi.
The camera launches in April for $799.99 USD.
Said Canon's Yuichi Ishizuka, "The new high-end PowerShot G1 X Mark II camera delivers incredible, professional-level shooting capabilities in a compact camera body making it the ideal second camera for DSLR shooters. In addition, with the introduction of advanced wireless capabilities such as NFC and enhanced low-light shooting and autofocusing, the G1 X Mark II is a well-rounded professional-level camera that allows photographers to get creative."
