Call of Duty and Skylanders keep Activision in NPD’s top spots for 2013

There’s a couple of games appearing in NPD’s tracking of video games for the end of 2013 that put Activision in a rather healthy spot for entering in this year’s full range of releases. With Call of Duty: Ghosts, Activision sees the #1 Top-Selling Next Gen Title through 2013 – that’s both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while it remains the best-selling title overall in December as well. Meanwhile Skylanders – as a video game franchise – won best-selling of the entire year for the kids video games category.

Skylanders – the extended series of games, that is – also won 3rd place for best-selling video game franchise overall for 2013. Note that each of these categories is wholly inside the United States and includes – therefor – English releases of games only. Both SKylanders Giants and Skylanders SWAP Force were also ranked inside the top 5 kids video games in 2013.

Top 10 Games (December 2013, New Physical Retail only)
1. Call Of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, PC, NWU)
2. Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, PC)
3. Just Dance 2014 (WII, 360, NWU, XBO, PS3, PS4)
4. Madden NFL 25 (360, PS3, PS4, XBO)
5. NBA 2K14 (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, PC)
6. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, PC, NWU)
7. Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)
8. Lego Marvel Super Heroes (360, PS3, 3DS, XBO, PS4, NWU, PSV, PC)
9. FIFA 14 (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, PSV)
10. Skylanders SWAP Force (WII, 360, PS3, NWU, 3DS, XBO, PS4)

For the whole year, both the Call of Duty and the Skylanders series had two games (each) in the NPD top 10 games of the year. Call of Duty: Ghosts, developed by Infinity Ward, is working currently with the #1 spot for first person action game of the year for 2013 in the United States. This same title has the #1 spot for most-played multiplayer title currently on the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.

Above you’ll see an extended look at Skylanders SWAP Force as played on the PlayStation 4 while below you’ll be having a peek at the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts. Both games are coming up quick on a unique SlashGear review tip as well – stay tuned!

Below you’ll find a bit more information on Call of Duty: Ghosts, as it continues to evolve with Activision’s first of four downloadable content packs this year. This first content pack begins the Extinction storyline, having your rather realistic world-bound players attacked by some extremely strange aliens – as first revealed in the Easter Egg multiplayer mode by the same name inside the original title.
