B&O's Beoplay H5 earphones go wireless for $249

Bang & Olufsen is cutting the cord with its latest headphones, the Beoplay H5, a set of sports and hands-free focused wireless earbuds. Hooking up via Bluetooth 4.2 to your smartphone, the splashproof earphones promise customizable sound from a companion app for iPhone and Apple Watch.

It's called B&O PLAY ToneTouch, and it basically allows you to tweak the audio with a visual equalizer on two different scales: warm to bright, and excited to relaxed.

Individual settings can be saved as presets for easier recall later on, as well as accessed via the Apple Watch app.

The earphones themselves are 18g in total, complete with the cable joining them together, and each bud has a 6.4mm electro-dynamic driver with 20 – 20,000 Hz range.

Beoplay H5 are splash and dust resistant, with B&O turning to textured rubber and polymer to make them impervious to sweat and rain. The cord is covered in braided textile.

Magnets in each bud mean they cling together, which should help keep them from slipping off from around your neck when you're not listening to music. Clicking them together, meanwhile, also powers the H5 headset off.

As for eartips, B&O is including a larger-than-average number of options in the box. There'll be three sizes of Comply Sport tips, which are designed to keep sweat and other moisture created while you exercise from getting into the electronics, together with four silicone tips of varying shapes and sizes for more casual listening.

It's not just music, of course. There's a microphone for hands-free use, together with Bluetooth 4.2, aptX, and AAC support.

B&O says the battery – which is rechargeable via USB – should last for up to five hours of music playback (at a "moderate level") and takes two hours to charge. There'll be an optional "charging cube" too, for your desk or nightstand.

Available to order today, in either black or "dusty rose", the Beoplay H5 is priced at $249. They're shipping now
