Atari classics Missile Command and Centipede are going to be movies

Movie adaptations based on big-name, current generation video games, like Assassin's Creed, World of Warcraft, and Uncharted for example, are nice and all, but what the world really needs is to see the all-important classics brought to the big screen. I'm talking Atari's Missile Command and Centipede. Never mind the fact that neither of those titles have anything close to a story, if Hollywood can produce a quality film based on the board game Battleship, I have no doubt they can do the same here.

This exciting news comes from Deadline, which reports that Atari, a company that still exists solely to license their ancient properties, has just signed a deal with the production company Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films. There's no writers, actors, or director attached to the project yet, obviously, so there's always a chance the paperwork could end up collecting dust in a drawer somewhere, nothing ever coming of it.

"We look forward to a very successful partnership and to bringing Centipede and Missile Command to the big screen," Emmett told Deadline, adding that they were "immensely popular titles [that] have been enjoyed by generations of gamers worldwide."

Missile Command and Centipede were both originally released in 1980, with the former tasking players with stopping nuclear war by shooting down incoming missiles, while the latter had them shooting waves of space bugs instead.

I think we can all agree that this is prime material for Michael Bay, and that he should be brought in to direct both movies ASAP.
