Apple's 'TV' App Won't Have Netflix Or Amazon Prime Video Content

If you watched Apple's event yesterday, you probably noticed a certain popular video service was missing during the 'TV' app unveiling: Netflix. That's because Netflix won't be available in the app, which is more than a little surprising (and disappointing). In addition, and quite the opposite in terms of expectation, Amazon Video won't be available on 'TV,' as the service has never been available on Apple TV.

Why Netflix won't be available in the new app, which Apple is simply calling 'TV,' isn't clear. However, a Netflix spokesperson revealed the news in a statement to WIRED, saying, "I can confirm we are not participating and evaluating the opportunity." Whether this will change at some point in the future is unknown.

And, to no one's surprise, you shouldn't expect to get access to your Amazon Video content, as Amazon's video service has never been available on Apple TV. You'll have to go with Amazon's own Fire TV or Fire TV Stick to get access to your Prime Video content, and it's doubtful that will be changing at any point in the near or distant future.

You can still watch Netflix on your Apple TV in general, so there's no worries there: Apple TV owners can continue to enjoy the service. It's just that you won't have the Netflix library content included in the 'TV' app, which itself works as something like a super guide. With it, users are presented with content they've bought and have been watching, new episodes, and more.
