Android TV to bolster its app selection with Twitch, HBO Now, and more

As more people cut the cord and turn to streaming services to replace conventional cable networks, the competition between TV service platforms continues to heat up. Android TV, which is a newcomer on the market compared to seniors like Roku, has some things in the works to bring its service to the next level. Google announced at its I/O conference that new apps, including high-profile selections like HBO Now, are going to be coming to Android TV.

Recently, Android TV saw additional boosts from devices like the NVIDIA SHIELD and Razer Forge. NVIDIA has also confirmed the upcoming release of the NVIDIA SHIELD Pro, which boasts an impressive 500 GB of storage.

Apps such as FX Now, WWE, UFC, Fox News, Fox Now, Vimeo, Qello, VUDU and Twitch will be joining Android TV's current offerings. Until the apps become officially available on Android TV, users can still work around their absence by using Chromecast to stream from other devices.

Google hasn't announced any hard dates for the new app roster, although at I/O, it said that the HBO Now app would be coming later this summer.
