One pilot episode and a lot of waiting later and we finally have a premiere date for the first season of Amazon's original 'The Tick' series: August 25. Amazon announced the premiere date in a new (very short) teaser trailer, which doesn't show any footage but does hint at the show's comedic nature. It's not clear whether Amazon will release the entire season at once per Netflix's modus operandi or one episode at a time like Hulu.

Amazon released 'The Tick' pilot episode as one of many new shows' pilots. This episode, like others, was intended to gauge how well audiences enjoyed the show and ultimately whether Amazon would proceed to turn it into a full series. The response was apparently adequate or greater, as Amazon proceeded to announce plans to produce the series. The pilot episode was released on August 18, 2016, and can be watched now via Amazon Prime Video.

While the teaser above doesn't show much of anything, the launch date aside, Amazon did release a half-minute trailer last year that offers a better look at the show — you can watch that here. It isn't clear at this time which actors from the pilot episodes will continue on in their roles for the series itself. According to Deadline, 'The Tick' will star Yara Martinez, Peter Serafinowicz, Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry and Brendan Hines.

The show will, says Amazon, revolve around a mentally ill accountant who has no superhero powers, which is quite unfortunate since superheroes have been real in his world for decades. This accountant soon begins to look into the existence of a super villain everyone thinks is dead, and that's when he ends up partnering with 'The Tick,' the blue-costumed superhero. The show is rated TV-14.
