Amazon gives 20% off all new video games to Prime members

You have to hand it to Amazon, as they're constantly adding to the value of their Prime service. For a while they've been making announcements regarding faster, same-day delivery, food delivery, and more. However, today's announcement is aimed squarely at saving gamers some money.

If you've purchased a game a Best Buy in the last couple of years, you've probably seen signage for their Gamers Club Unlocked program. For around $30 you get a few different ways to save money, with the most enticing being the fact that you get 20% off of new games. You can see how that can quickly pay for itself. Well today Amazon is matching that deal, sort of.

Amazon announced today that they will now give Prime members 20% off of games that are pre-ordered, or purchased within the first two weeks that they are released. The discount will apply to the original retail price, and not to any sale prices that may be going on during that period.

There are some restrictions to the discount. First, it will only apply to physical copies of a game (which are guaranteed to be delivered on the release date), and only those games that are sold directly by Amazon. While the discount will apply to Collector's Editions of games, you won't get a discount on games that are bundled with a console. And as stated earlier, the discount only applies for the first two weeks that the game is on sale. After that, you'll have to pay full price.

Best Buy's offering still wins out, because there is no two-week restriction on it. However, if you already have Prime, you won't have to pay anything extra to get this deal. The discount appears to be a permanent addition to the Prime family, so you should be able to take advantage of this for all upcoming game purchases.
