Amazon Exclusives is a virtual pop-up shop for boutique buys

Amazon may already be the online big box retailer of choice for many, but Jeff Bezos & Co. are hoping to be your boutique option too, with the launch of Amazon Exclusives. Designed to highlight new and niche products, including those successfully pitched on hit TV show Shark Tank, the new storefront promises a more curated catalog than the regular Amazon shelves. The initial line-up is pretty eclectic, too, spanning designer portable power chargers through Olloclip add-on lenses to shoes, with the promise that there are very few other places you can find such items if you're interested.

That's because part of Amazon's deal with designers and suppliers is near-total exclusivity. The products themselves may already be available through the company's own physical stores or their site, but Amazon Exclusives will be the sole third-party retailer.

Some of the products on offer will include crowdfunding successes. Zackees' gloves with integrated turn-signals for cyclists, for instance, are included in the first batch of items.

Since Amazon is handling distribution, however, products will still be covered by Amazon Prime membership and so eligible for inclusive two-day shipping.

As Amazon pitches it, the storefront is a way to cut through some of the catalog overload and find items you might ordinarily have missed. For designers and businesses, it's a chance to perhaps grab a greater share of the limelight, assuming they're willing to commit to the retailer.

Eventually, there'll be everything from electronics to sports equipment and clothes, though Amazon isn't saying exactly how many products will be gathered together in its virtual pop-up store, nor how long they'll stick around there for.
