2019 Terrain And Acadia Black Editions See GMC Get Moody
GMC is bringing out some seriously tinted trucks for the New York Auto Show next week, with the 2019 Terrain and Acadia Black Editions giving its SUVs a moody makeover. Offering another option alongside GMC's existing Denali, chrome-lavished, and color-matched exterior versions, the new Black Edition trim leaves each SUV looking markedly different.
In the case of the 2019 Terrain Black Edition, the effect kicks off with a darkened grille insert and matching black surround. The mirror caps, roof rails, and other exterior accents are finished in black, too, and the badging is finished in black. Finally, there are 19-inch gloss black aluminum wheels.
GMC will offer the Terrain Black Edition with either the SLE or SLT versions of the SUV. There'll be five exterior colors, four carried over from the previous model year – Ebony Twilight Metallic, Summit White, Graphite Gray Metallic, and Satin Steel Metallic – and a new finish for the 2019 model year, Sedona Metallic. Pricing will be confirmed closer to the SUV's release, which is expected over the summer.
As for the 2019 Acadia Black Edition, that will only be offered on the SLT version of the SUV. It, too, gets a black grille insert and matching black surround, along with black headlamp and tail lamp detailing. The mirror caps, roof rails, and other exterior trim are also finished in black.
Its wheels, though, come in at 20-inches, and they're machined aluminum with black accents. Three colors will be carried over from before – Ebony Twilight Metallic, Summit White, and White Frost Tricoat – and joined by two new 2019 finishes, Dark Sky Metallic and Smokey Quartz Metallic. As with the Terrain, pricing will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date this summer.
While it might seem like trim and styling overkill to have so many packages, GMC argues that it actually makes a lot of sense given what SUV buyers tend to spend on customization. According to the automaker's own research, approximately 20-percent of new SUV buyers end up spending more money on tweaking their vehicle's appearance. Having a factory-installed option that satisfies such a demand means no warranty worries, issues with lease agreements, or concerns about third-party workmanship. We'll see the two new special editions at the New York International Auto Show 2018 next week.
