2019 Cadillac XT5 Sport Edition gives luxe SUV darker style

Cadillac is giving its XT5 SUV a limited-edition styling update, with the 2019 XT5 Sport Package showing how the luxury crossover can be more aggressive. Making its debut at the Chicago Auto Show 2019, the special version follows on from the XT4 and XT6 Sport packages.

It’ll be offered as an option on the XT5 Luxury and XT5 Premium Luxury trims, Cadillac says, for those who want “a dark, aggressive appearance” to their SUV. For instance, there’s a gloss black grille with Galvano surround, along with LEDs for the headlamps, cornering lights, and the signature lighting.

The taillamps use clear lenses, unlike the colored lenses of the regular 2019 XT5. There are 20-inch aluminum wheels in a Technical Gray finish, along with side-assist steps. Inside, there’ll be sport pedals and a choice of two color choices. Either Cirrus/Jet Black, with Diamond Cut aluminum trim, or the Jet Black with Diamond Cut aluminum trim.

Of course, you’ll also get all the usual features form the Luxury or Premium Luxury trims. That includes features like Adaptive Remote Start and leather heated front seats, with the Premium Luxury throwing in front seat ventilation, too. There’s also a heated steering wheel and a power liftgate with memory, plus a Bose eight-speaker audio system.

What “Sport” doesn’t mean is any more power. Indeed the 2019 XT5 Sport Edition packs the same engine – tuned for the same horsepower – as the regular XT5. That’s a 3.6-liter V6, good for 310 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. There’s stop/start and cylinder deactivation for better economy as standard.

The dashboard gets Cadillac’s touchscreen infotainment system, with an 8-inch display. 4G LTE with WiFi hotspot support is optional, while Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. The XT5 Premium Luxury trim has navigation as standard, too.

Cadillac says the XT5 Sport Package will be offered on the SUV from spring 2019. It’ll be a $2,995 upgrade on the 2019 XT5 Luxury, and a $1,995 upgrade on the 2019 XT5 Premium Luxury; the former starts at $49,490 including destination.
