2018 Honda Odyssey lands 5-star overall vehicle score from NHTSA

Honda is taking some time to brag on its 2018 Odyssey minivan. The vehicle earned a 5-star overall vehicle score from the NHTSA. The Odyssey earned the NHTSA Top Safety Pick+ designation when equipped with the available Honda Sensing and LED headlights. Honda Sensing is standard on Odyssey EX and higher trims, which account for 99% of sales according to Honda.

The vehicle earned Good ratings across the board with one of the key bits of tech behind it scoring so highly being the Collision Mitigation Braking System that is included in the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver assist technologies. Honda says that the vehicle also earned a Superior rating thanks to performance in collision avoidance tests.

Honda Odyssey Elite and Touring trims earned an Acceptable rating for LED reflector headlights. Both of those trims have high-beam assist feature that changes between high and low beams depending on if other vehicles are present. The vehicle also earned a Good rating in the small overlap front and moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests.

Odyssey also scored 5 stars in frontal crash tests for driver and passenger and 5 stars for side crash tests for front and rear seat passengers. The vehicle scored 4 stars in the rollover test. The Honda Sensing suite technologies include Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
