2016 Chevrolet Equinox debuts with style updates

The 2016 Chevrolet Equinox has debuted ahead of its fall release, and with it comes details showing a well-rounded upgrade over previous models. There's new styling complemented by some new safety features, a new interior option, and more. This comes at a time when Chevrolet has seen sustained success with its compact SUV — last year brought yet another year of increased sales, with 2014 hitting 242,242 units. The auto maker has seen growing Equinox sales for five consecutive years now.

The 2016 Equinox will be available in L, LS, LT, and LTZ trim lineups, and will drop the 1LT and the 2LT. All varieties will have a new front fascia and dual-port grille with chrome accents — the LT and LTZ grilles will have "specific chrome trim", as well, according to Chevrolet. The LTZ in particular will feature new fog lamps.

The LS model will have optional 17-inch wheels; the LTZ will have 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the LT will have 17-inch aluminum wheels. Both of those latter two will also have new daytime running lamps — the LT/LTZ will have LED lights, while the L/LS will have "reflector-style" offerings.

The 2016 Equinox will feature a new "Saddle Up" interior color, the transmission shifter has been tweaked with a chrome trim and relocated buttons, and the instrument panel has scored both updated graphics and a storage shelf. A couple of engines will be available: the Ecotec 2.4L with 32MPG/highway and the 3.6L V6 direct-injected with 301 horsepower. The LT and LTZ will have Chevy's MyLink, though OnStar alongside 4G LTE will also be offered.
