Yoda returns to Star Wars with Frank Oz in tow

While there's not yet word of whether or not the ghost of Yoda will return for Episode 7 of the Star Wars live action movie series, Rebels has been confirmed. Star Wars Rebels has already featured a guest appearance of James Earl Jones as Darth Vader – now it's time to bring back none other than the original Yoda – Frank Oz – as our little green friend. This appearance will be made in a "disembodied voice" sort of way – because he's on Dagobah, of course.

The episode will feature our best blue-haired pal's Jedi experience unfolding on a planet in the Outer Rim. Between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Yoda remains on Dagobah – to our knowledge, anyway. This idea is maintained in Star Wars Rebels.

Frank Oz – who did the voice for Yoda throughout the live action series, and the puppetry for Yoda in Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back – will be voicing Yoda here.

Creators of Star Wars Rebels have suggested that a disembodied Yoda voice was fully sufficient for this "Path of the Jedi" episode of the series. Kanan and Ezra will meet him, presumably on the planet shown in the image here (directly above this paragraph), as shared by StarWars.com.

The image you see at the head of this article was mocked up by SlashGear – if that wasn't entirely obvious already.

Below you'll see the "Lost Missions" version of Yoda from Star Wars: Clone Wars. He'll look just a BIT different in Rebels – if you're able to see him at all, that is.

Star Wars Rebels "Path of the Jedi" episode will be airing on Monday, January 5th, at 9PM Eastern Time, 8PM Central Time on Disney XD. Fans will be able to watch the Disney XD app release of the episode starting on the 29th of December.
