Yi 4K+ Action Camera Now Available, Offers 60fps UHD Recording
Chinese company Yi Technology has announced the availability of its Yi 4K+ action camera, its first action cam model to offer 4K video recording at a relatively high 60fps. The company makes pretty big claims about its camera, including that it offers better detail and sharpness than any other competing action camera available. This is an update to the company's previously launched Yi 4K Action Camera.
This isn't the first Yi action camera on the market to offer 4K recording, but it does trump previous offerings by including the option for higher frame-rate capture. That's a welcomed change that makes the 4K Ultra HD video recording feature all the more appealing. The company also says it is the first to use an Ambarella H2 SoC processor in an action camera, enabling a max bitrate of 120Mbps.
Yi first introduced this model back around CES 2017, and it has now announced that the camera is available to purchase from various online retailers, including Amazon and AliExpress for about $340 USD. Unlike the first model, the Yi 4K+ features a somewhat attractive carbon fiber design. This is joined by USB-C charging, as well as Bluetooth and WiFi for connectivity.
The model supports taking 12-megapixel RAW still images and recording content at 4K/60fps for more than one hour or 1080p/60fps for up to 2 hours on a charge. The sensor is joined by a 155-degree wide-angle f/2.8 glass lens. Around back, meanwhile, Yi has included a 2.2-inch touchscreen display with Gorilla Glass for extra protection. The camera also supports voice commands.
