Xperia XZ3 will try to appeal to buyers through colors

If you wanted a phone that was as much a fashion or art statement as it was a tech product, you would skip Sony's Xperias. For years, the company has offered its phones in very professional and drab hues of black, gray, and everything in between. It occasionally did show signs of whimsy, with phlegmatic green and copper colors, but those have been far and few in between. It seems that the Xperia XZ3 will be one of those rare occasions as well, perhaps to help mask how the late 2018 flagship might come up short by this year's standards.

Sony made a bold move this year when it exchanged its years-old sharp and straight design for the smooth curves of the Xperia XZ2. It didn't, however, shed off its stigma when it came to color options. While most smartphone makers (except for Apple) have gone out of their way to offer interesting takes on color options, Sony's selection has so far remained predictably reserved.

The Xperia XZ3 will mix things up a bit, according to MySmartPrice. According to the latest leak, Sony will offer the smartphone in Burgundy, Black, White, and Green. While these colors are nothing new, Sony still manages to give them its own interpretation that is darker and less attention-grabbing than others.

That said, while the Xperia XZ3 will be nice to look at, that might be all that sets it apart from its predecessor. The two will be nearly identical in specs, from the 5.7-inch 2160x1080 notch-less screen to the Snapdragon 845 processor. They might differ in RAM, with the XZ3 getting 6 GB, and the new 48 megapixel camera, but that's pretty much it.

That raises the question of Sony's future in the smartphone market. It has so far shown a devil may care attitude when it comes to less than encouraging sales, seeing smartphones simply as a means rather than an end. With more capable, more affordable, and more stylish options flooding the market, Sony might reach a point where it decides that the production and marketing costs are just too much to bear.
