Xbox One sales exceed one million consoles in less than 24 hours, says Microsoft

It has been less than a day since the much-anticipated Xbox One launched, and Microsoft has announced that it has already sold more than 1 million consoles, making it the device's biggest launch ever. The sales are represented by worldwide purchases across the 13 markets it launched in today, and bypasses the Xbox 360's first-day sales numbers.

If you were hoping to head out this Friday night and grab yourself a console for a weekend of gaming, you might be out of luck. Most retailers that stocked the Xbox One are reporting that they're sold out, and while Microsoft says that is working to get more stock out for the "unprecedented demand," it doesn't say how long that might take. The company also went on to break down some gaming stats, giving a glimpse of what people are doing with their consoles.

With Dead Rising 3, gamers have slayed more than 60 million zombies, something followed with Forza Motorsport 5, which has seen in excess of 3.6 million miles driven collectively. Killer Instinct has had 7.1 million combos performed, and Ryse: Son of Rome has seen 8.5 million enemies vanquished. And less one think everyone is sitting around, Microsoft also says 43.3 million Fit Points have been earned in Xbox Fitness.

Said Xbox's corporate VP of marketing and strategy Yusuf Mehdi, "We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world. Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season."
