Xbox One Phantom White controller is official: Pre-order now

The previously leaked white version of the Xbox Phantom controller was made official this evening during Microsoft's Inside Xbox livestream. The company officially took the wraps off its Phantom White Special Edition model, offering console owners the chance to pre-order a unit now or pick one up from their favorite game retailer starting in early April.

The Xbox One Phantom White controller first appeared in a leak this week, showing a white version of the Phantom Black controller Microsoft introduced back in August 2018. The model features a transparent upper body that fades to opaque white toward the bottom, mixing a traditional appearance with a glimpse at the hardware nestled inside of the device.

This special edition controller blends "luxury and Sci-Fi," according to Microsoft, emphasizing the hidden technology with a shell that fades to transparency. There are gold mechanical bits to complement the creamy white body, as well as glossy buttons, thumbsticks, and triggers. It's all rounded out by textured grips.

Looks aside, buyers get the same wireless Xbox One controller as other previous editions. There's a 3.5mm audio headphone jack for directly connecting a wired headset, Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, and support for custom button mapping via the Xbox Accessories companion app.

As with other controllers, Xbox One owners can pick up the new Phantom White Special Edition model from the Microsoft Store, Xbox.com, or through a number of retailers, such as GameStop. The controller can be pre-ordered for $69.99 USD and it'll be available on shelves starting April 2.
