Withings Aura alarm clock gets Spotify Connect support

Withings has announced a partnership with Spotify under which it will provide Aura Clock owners with musical playlists. This makes Aura the first connected alarm clock to sport Spotify Connect, says Withings; with such support, users are able to access in excess of 30 million songs to set up music playlists for when it is time to get up and time to go to sleep. If you don't have time to pick through songs to find the perfect playlist, though, Withings has you covered.

Withings says it is developing a recommendation system that will provide users with suggestions based on "playlists effectiveness" for going to sleep at night and waking up in the morning. The company says it conducted a sleep study that shows 73 percent of respondents in the UK feel waking up poorly puts a bad spin on their day.

That poor wake up, the reasoning goes, can be avoided with some pleasant tunes (gone are the days of a static-y radio jarring you awake). The music complements the existing "blue melatonin light" to wake the users up gently, and to make them more alert. Aura also has a sleep sensor that, when used, will wake a person up at the ideal time during their sleep cycle.

Following the Spotify Connect support, Withings says it will provide a recommendation system by the end of this year, which will be made available in the Health Mate app. The user's own musical tastes will be taken under consideration, as well as how efficient a type of music is at getting someone up and out of bed.
