Windows 7 pre-beta gets a tryout on Lenovo IdeaPad S10

The Windows 7 operating system entered pre-beta just last week at the Microsoft PDC, and we've seen it tried out a few times here and there. But now we're getting our first look at Windows 7 on the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook.

One of the main focuses of the Windows team was to make Windows 7 completely compatible with netbook systems. And after several tests, those over at NetbookTech ran into a few problems, but nothing out of the ordinary for a pre-beta release.

Some of the notable factors included the fact that Windows 7 installed fairly quickly and easily. A few drivers were missing, but other than that it went pretty smooth. The OS was quick and stable. It is also expected to be slimmer than Vista by the time it hits production, though at the moment, it uses about 500-600MB of memory to boot up. The graphics were also good, though it was slow in certain media applications. All in all, it seems impressive and much more stable than Vista.
