Western Digital My Passport Pro unveiled with Thunderbolt

Western Digital has introduced its newest offering, the My Passport Pro drive. Says the maker, this is the first portable dual-drive option powered by Intel's Thunderbolt. The drive launched today in both 2TB and 4TB capacities through Apple and various retailers.

The My Passport Pro is powered by an integrated Thunderbolt cable, which Western Digital says it designed, and with it comes speeds up to 233MB/s. The drive offers two 2.5-inch hard drives, with the enclosure itself being made from aluminum and having undergone shock testing for durability.

In addition, the My Passport Pro offers users the ability to select their RAID function, setting it up as RAID 0 for performance or as RAID 1 for data redundancy, dependent on need. The drive is available for $299.99 and $429.99, depending on capacity.

Said Intel's Director of Thunderbolt Marketing, "Thunderbolt technology makes new approaches possible for high-performance workflows. By combining dual storage drives on a portable, bus-powered device, the My Passport Pro from WD is a uniquely powerful storage solution with high capacity for today's demanding users."
