Viking Modular debuts Slim SATA SSD

Viking modular has announced a new slim SATA SSD (PDF) that uses the JEDEC MO-297 specification. The SSD has no case and is a very small and rugged SSD available for customers to purchase right now. The SSD is an embedded drive promising impressive performance while being about half the size of a typical 2.5-inch SSD.

The SSD uses 3Gb SATA II connectivity and promises sustained read performance of up to 260MB/s. The SSD is ideal for telecommunications, gaming, embedded server and storage systems.

Viking offers the tiny little SSDs in several capacities including a small 25GB, 60GB, and a 120GB offering. The SSDs all have advanced controller features to protect against catastrophic page and block failures and they have data path CRC error detection. The SSDs can also be had in MLC or SLC formats.
