Verizon Wireless CEO: We'd Like the iPhone Now

Well, well, well, what do we have here? Another iPhone rumor! And of course, here's Verizon Wireless coming along for the ride, too. Sure, this one's a bit more grounded in reality, at least we hope so, considering the company's CEO is the one behind it, but still, we can't help but be a bit skeptical. Although, there's probably nothing to be skeptical about, now is there? After all, Verizon Wireless probably does want the iPhone, but, as you'll read, it's not necessarily up to them.

There's a lot of fan fiction about the sordid affair that Verizon Wireless, Apple, and AT&T had back in 2007 (and probably earlier) when the original iPhone was launched. The consistent story at this point, if we recall correctly, is that Verizon Wireless turned down the original iPhone, and the rest is history. Well, Apple obviously didn't fail due to their lack of a launch on the country's biggest wireless carrier. In fact, they're kind of booming, last time we checked. The iPhone has a huge part to play in that, and with all this talk of the new iPhone coming out in the next few months, Verizon Wireless is ready to jump on board.

According to reports, Ivan Seidenberg was talking to the Council on Foreign Affairs, and sourced the recent Wall Street Journal report that the iPhone would be coming to the Verizon Wireless network. Reportedly, Seidenberg said that he was willing to accept the iPhone (now), but that the ultimate call was left with Apple. Neither Apple, AT&T, or Verizon Wireless have commented on the story, so we're left wondering: will Seidenberg get his wish?
