Venom's First Official Trailer Shows Us What We Want To See

While Marvel is gearing up to premiere the culmination of ten years of movies with this week's Avengers: Infinity War, Sony has been rather quietly plugging away with its feature film based on Venom, one of Spider-Man's most popular enemies. The film's first teaser trailer premiered back in February, but unfortunately, we didn't get to see Venom himself – merely Eddie Brock, who acts as a host for the Venom symbiote. That all changes today with the first official trailer for Venom, which finally shows us what we all want to see.

Yes indeed, this new trailer shows Venom rather than just Eddie Brock, but not before giving us a little bit of backstory. As it turns out, Sony seems to have worked out a Spider-Man free origin for Venom, with the symbiote that bonds with Brock being discovered by a shady businessman who uses it in human testing.

Eddie Brock, who works as a journalist for the Daily Bugle, takes it upon himself to investigate the lab experimenting with this symbiote. Bad things naturally happen, leading him to bond with one of the lab's experiments. That symbiote has a mind of its own, and throughout the trailer, we see Brock and the symbiote conversing about how the enhanced abilities granted by their bond should be used.

It all culminates at the very end of the trailer, when we finally get to see the symbiote and its host form Venom. Venom looks mostly like what comic book fans would expect, and while he may not look exactly like he does on the page, he certainly looks better than he did in Spider-Man 3 (sorry, Topher Grace).

In the end, the trailer feels up ending a little weird, as it just seems to be a vehicle for Sony to reveal what Venom looks like in the most dramatic way possible. It's going to be interesting to see how Sony handles creating a Venom-focused movie that doesn't feature Spider-Man, but we have a while longer to wait, as Venom won't premiere until October 5. In the meantime, head down to the comments section and let us know what you thought of this first full-length trailer for Venom!
