Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt movie tipped as Netflix show ends

Netflix has decided that the fourth season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be its last. The season is set to debut in January 2019, but it'll be the last one fans get. We first heard word about the cancellation earlier this month, however we're now hearing the premiere dates for the final episodes. As well, sources claim the company may make a movie based on the show.

News of the show's end first arose earlier this month from Deadline; it has since been officially confirmed. We now know that the last six episodes of season four will be arriving on January 25, bringing an end to both the fourth season and the show itself.

The first six episodes of the season debuted on the streaming service yesterday. Rather than ending with the last half-dozen episodes, though, Deadline now reports that Netflix is talking with Universal Television, the show's producer, about creating a movie based on the series.

Netflix hasn't commented on the rumor that we may get a finale movie. However, such a plan wouldn't be a first for the company, which previously announced a Sense8 movie to bring that show to a proper conclusion. Whether an Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt film will ultimately happen is anyone's guess, however.

The show's demise isn't a huge surprise. The team behind the series originally planned for it to last five season; by splitting the fourth season into two parts, the fifth season is technically happening. Presumably the movie, should it happen, will have a Netflix premiere, but it's possible we could see it hit theaters.
