Unannounced Sony Xperia F833X being sold in Croatia

It isn't unusual to see an almost endless supply of prototypes getting leaked over the Internet, and Sony is no exception. In fact, at one point in time it was considered to be hopeless in keeping things under wraps. What is, unusual, however, is a prototype, or a test model, being sold weeks, maybe even months, before the real deal goes out the door. And yet that is exactly what a daring, perhaps reckless, person is doing with the Xperia F833X, believed to be the upcoming new Xperia X Performance, selling the device in the Croatian equivalent of Craigslist.

Unsurprisingly, the listing has been taken off the NjuĆĄkalo classified ads website already. But, as they say, anything you put on the Internet lives forever. Fortunately for us, the listing provided images and some specs, which may or may not reflect reality. So the usual grain of salt applies.

According to the unnamed seller, the device, which he names as a "new model of the Xperia X Performance", has a 5.1-inch display, 3 GB of RAM, 23 megapixel rear camera, and 12 megapixel front camera. Immediately some of those numbers might already be disappointing, or contradicts earlier rumors. The display for the F833X, for example, is suspected to actually be 5.2 inches in size. And the front camera, 13 megapixels. The 3 GB of RAM is also sad in this day and age, at least among flagship smartphones.

The one thing that listing does confirm is the new design of the device, which is both strange and unique at the same time. Curved left and right edges but flat top and bottom edges. The back is also uncharacteristically flat, unlike the more curved rears of today's smartphones.

Given how Sony seems to have missed the mark yet again with the Xperia X generation, it will be interesting if a change in design will spark some interest again. But unless Sony addresses it biggest flaws to satisfaction, there will be no slowing down its slide from the mobile hill.
