Uber used as getaway car during armed robbery

Well, here's one of the more creative uses of ride-sharing service Uber that we've seen recently. A young man in Maryland recently had no getaway vehicle or driver after robbing a store, so he did the next best thing: he opened the Uber app on his phone and requested a pickup. The police were quick to catch the suspect, but it probably came as a surprise to the driver to be pulled over with lights and sirens.

On Wednesday of last week, 23-year-old Dashawn Terrell Cochran entered a store just outside of Baltimore, and after walking to the register with an item, pulled a gun and demanded all their cash. He then left, and put his problem-solving skills to good use.

Eyewitnesses reported that they saw him getting into the black of a silver Lexus just after the robbery. It didn't take the police long to catch up and pull the vehicle over, where they not only found Cochran, but a driver and a second passenger.

The police quickly determined that the driver and other passenger had nothing to do with the crime, and were subsequently released. Cochran, however, was obviously arrested.

The driver and other rider both said they had no idea Cochran was fleeing from the scene of a crime when he hopped in the car. Uber has not released a comment on the incident, but hopefully the driver at least got a good rating from the suspect.
