UAMP pocket amp brings bass to your mobile

Pocket amps certainly aren't scarce — if you are handy, you can find instructions to make one yourself all over the Internet — but they're not often stylish, and some of them are more burdensome to transport than some are willing to deal with. Enter the UAMP, a sleekly designed pocket amp that aims to improve the sound quality coming from your mobile device. It does this alongside a small form factor, one that won't get in the way of most activities.

The issue is one that any discerning music lover will know: audio quality when listening to music from your smartphone (or similar gadget) isn't so great. You want to hear all those highs and lows and put your headphones to good use, and you need an amp to do it. UAMP is one such amp, designed to be both stylish and small enough to fit in your pocket. The amp plugs into the smartphone, then the headphones plug into the amp.

The UAMP comes with preset EQs and a custom option, and includes a micro USB port. There's a physical volume control on the amp, as well as a trio of LED indicators, the dual 3.5mm audio ports, and a square design with 43mm sides. The entire unit weighs a little under an ounce and is construction from aluminum. The amp is able to increase a device's volume by 2.5x, and it boasts "very low distortion".

The guys behind UAMP are looking to raise funds for their product on Kickstarter — they were hoping to raise $15,000 AUD, and have exceeded that with about $23,000 AUD in pledges so far. The Super Early Bird and Early Bird options are sold out, but you can get the device at a discount still by pledging at least $65 AUD ($50 USD and 45 Euro). Shipping starts in July.
