TYLT Vu Pulse turns Pebble Time into a heart rate monitor

Owners of the Pebble Time smartwatch that are into fitness or need to keep an eye on their heart rate for medical reasons will want to check out the TYLT Vu Pulse. This device brings fitness tracking to the Pebble Time smartwatch. Vu Pulse uses the green light sensing tech found in some of the other top fitness bands on the market.

The device is able to monitor heart rate in real time and filter the data using an algorithm to block noise that might interfere with readings. Vu Pulse can track heart rate over a specified period. In passive mode, heart rate is measured every 30 minutes to get a baseline throughout the day without impacting battery life.

In active mode, it can read every ten seconds to give accurate measurements with a workout. Readings via Vu Pulse are integrated with the Pebble Health API. Pressing the middle button on the watch tracks steps, calories burned, and heart rate throughout the workout.

The companion app presents users with an overview of workout data that can be synched with Apple Health or Google Fit. The heart rate device also adds Qi wireless charging to the Pebble Time. Vu Pulse is on Kickstarter seeking $100,000 and has raised over $82,000 with 28 days to go. A pledge of $44 or more will get you a Vu Pulse with shipping in August.
