Tuesday Zune Round-Up
Happy Zune Day everybody! There interweb is awash with lovely Zune news, so let's see how much we can munch through...There are obviously a whole lot of writers who have either been lucky enough to get a free Zune or two in the post or who have spent their own hard-blogged cash buying one. Robert Scoble falls into the first camp, perhaps unsurprisingly considering who most recently comes under "previous employer" on his CV; Robert has been flaunting his Zunes around staff at Retrevo, a new gadget search engine, who seem to think that while the iPod still rules the Zune isn't far behind.
Then of course there are the unboxing photoshoots: Gizmodo have spared their Zunes the rooftop treatment doled out to the PS3 and Wii earlier on this week, and this time stay indoors, while Gear Diary also has some great photos of Judie's 30gb Zune coming out of its packaging. TDavid goes one better with a video unboxing, posted a mere seven hours or so after he pondered the 50/50 chance that he would even buy one at all
General opinion is that Microsoft has done a Good Thing by avoiding the typical clichéd box design, instead putting something together that competes nicely with Apple while not directly aping them.
Finally, for now, Engadget issues a call for anyone who has publicly shared music using the Zune's built-in wifi; so far the comments seem to be mainly discussing the state of the software installation (which is proving to be buggy), whether sharing music is cool or not, and the expected "Microsoft is crap, iPod is far better". It's nice to know that some things never change.
