Toyota issues major recall of 369,000 vehicles globally

Toyota has issued a massive recall this week covering a total of 369,000 vehicles. The recall covers two different groups of vehicles for separate reasons. About 200,000 vehicles have been recalled around the world because of a problem with their hybrid powertrain systems.

Another 169,000 vehicles around the world were recalled for a problem having to do with an engine bolt. Toyota's announcement came via company spokeswoman Shino Yamada on Wednesday and she says that no accidents have occurred related to either recall. The hybrid system covers Lexus RX400 and Highlander models.

It also covers a couple of Japanese market models including the Harrier and Kluger hybrids in Japan. Out of the number of hybrids covered in the recall, 141,000 of them are in the US with 15,000 in Japan. The hybrid system defect may cause an alarm to go off and the hybrid vehicle could stop running.

The recall having to do with the engine bolt covers the Lexus GS350, IS350, Crown and Mark X models. That recall affects 106,000 vehicles in North America and 59,000 in Japan. This problem could lead to engine bolts that loosen and cause the engine to stall.
