Toshiba offers new MBF2xxLRC 2.5-inch SFF HDD in 3.5-inch bracket

Toshiba has announced its latest HDD offering for enterprise users looking to migrate to the benefits of SFF HDDs in the data center and other uses while still being able to use existing 3.5-inch storage hardware. The new family of drives is called the MBF2xxLRC and are 2.5-inch drives that are mounted in a 3.5-inch bracket.

Using the new drive in the bracket enterprise users can start the migration to smaller and more energy efficient HDDs and still use legacy 3.5-inch servers and storage enclosures. The new family of drives are offered in 300GB, 450GB, and 600GB capacities.

The drives spin at 10,250 RPM and use the 6GB/s SAS interface. The drives consume 70% less power at idle than comparable 3.5-inch HDDs. The media transfer rate for the drive is 216MB/s and they use a 16MB buffer.
