Toshiba HD DVD player breaks sub-$300 mark

When it comes to the next-gen formats, some people say that the movie releases will be the deciding factor, other people are inclined to think that the price will win the war. I'm inclined to agree with the latter. Once the prices hit the point where the average Joe can pick one up without considering it a "major investment" then things will be decided.

Toshiba has really stepped up their game with a promotion that will knock $100 off of any of their HD DVD players purchased from a brick-and-mortar store. At last check, their cheapest player was the HD-A2 which was going for around $400. Since the discount applies to all models, it will be hitting the sub-$300 mark.

The promotion runs from May 20 until June 9. Just in time for Father's day.
