Torq EV buggy is designed specifically for ordnance disposal

A company called Torq Defense Systems has unveiled a new electric all-terrain vehicle that is designed specifically for ordnance disposal personnel. The vehicle is called the EOD Light Tactical Electric Vehicle and can be used by both law enforcement and government agencies. The Torq LTEV is designed so that the driver can operate the vehicle while wearing a full ordinance disposal suit. The vehicle is designed to operate in high-density urban environments.

The vehicle has all sorts of critical tools that are necessary to execute a render safe procedure, which is a fancy way to say disarming a bomb. The LTEV is also designed to receive, tow and deploy a large vehicle bomb countermeasure system. Exactly what that means is unknown.

The vehicle can be reconfigured to serve the needs of individual agencies from HAZMAT to SWAT teams. "The open design of this lightweight and stealthy task oriented vehicle easily lends itself to situational customization for a wide array of narrowly defined missions and applications" said TORQ Defense Systems President Steve Brown.

The vehicle has a top speed of 30mph and has an overhead operator protection system. I take that to mean a roll bar. It has independent front and rear suspension, all-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, 18 hp electric AC brushless motor, 450 Amps motor controller and a 48V AGM battery. It can be charged from a standard 110V electric outlet. It's unclear just how far the Ev will travel on a charge.

"We designed this purpose-built LTEV with input from EOD and law enforcement industry experts as well as manufacturers of specialized EOD tools and products" said Rick D'Andrea, Director of Sales and Marketing. "Our goal was to develop a highly capable tactical vehicle that can alleviate EOD technician fatigue and may also serve to reduce a first responders time-on-target."
