TIDAL music streaming service arrives on Roku devices

Many months after its arrival on the DIY streaming platform Plex, music streaming service TIDAL has officially launched on Roku. Unlike competing music services like Spotify, TIDAL is known for its high fidelity offerings, giving audiophiles access to audio content at higher qualities that the compressed versions offered through most competitors. In addition, the service offers access to some exclusive content and videos.

TIDAL, as with competing services, offers various plans that give customers access to a large library of on-demand music, including videos and full albums. The company's Premium plan is a standard $9.99/month, offering normal sound quality and HD music videos alongside an 'expertly curated editorial.' The company also has a HiFi plan for $19.99/month that includes high fidelity sound quality.

TIDAL likewise includes the expected discounts for students ($4.99/month premium and $9.99/month HiFi), plus there are two family plans: $14.99/month for Premium and $29.99/month for HiFi. A full breakdown of other rates for military members and similar are available on the company's support website.

Subscribers who own a Roku device can now access the audio content through their streaming stick or box, making it easier for some consumers to play the content through their entertainment system or surround sound setup. The Roku app includes support for searching for content and playback; users can download it in The Roku Channel.

TIDAL is only one of multiple services available through streaming devices; many services support casting to Chromecast and Chromecast-enabled soundbars, for example, plus there's Amazon Music and select other services available through Fire TV. In addition to Roku, TIDAL is available on Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, plus mobile, Sonos, CarPlay, and Samsung Wearables.
