This Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit preview is a Switch-fan must-see

Nintendo Labo is undoubtedly one of the more interesting games of 2018, and it's about to get a pretty significant expansion. Nintendo is gearing up to launch a new kit that revolves entirely around vehicles. The Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit arrives in a couple of weeks, and today, Nintendo published a new video that shows us what we can expect.

The Labo Vehicle Kit will come with three vehicle Toy-Cons that players can construct. One features a steering wheel like you'd see in a regular car, complete with levers that can be used for different actions in-game. The second Toy-Con almost looks like a set of submarine periscope controls with a pair of wheels on either side, and the third is a flight stick. The Vehicle Kit also comes with a pedal that fits one of your Switch's Joy-Cons and works with all three vehicles.

Moving your "key" between the three different Toy-Cons as you play will change the vehicle you're controlling, and those vehicles can be used to explore the in-game world in adventure mode. In adventure mode, you'll receive missions to complete, and you'll need to use each vehicle's special abilities to accomplish them. As you'd expect, the game world looks colorful and varied, with a very Nintendo feel to it.

Aside from adventure mode, you'll also have some other mini-games to check out. Rally, for instance, will have you racing through checkpoints, while Circuit is something of a combat racing game that has you punching opponents out of the way to gain position. Slot Cars uses only the pedal that's included with the Vehicle Kit and challenges you to stay on the track as you speed around it, while Battle pits you against another player as your cars duke it out.

Toward the end of the video, Nintendo also announces a new custom control feature for Labo, which allows you to make your own controllers out of items you have laying around your house. It's a neat idea, and if Nintendo wants to spur creativity in children, that's definitely one way to do it. Nintendo Labo's Vehicle Kit launches on September 14 and, like the Variety Kit, will cost $69.99.
