Thermaltake unveils Max 5G external HDD enclosure

Typically, external enclosures for your HDD are just aluminum shells with the interface and power tech needed to allow them to operate outside a computer. They are typically passively cooled which means no fans. Thermaltake has unveiled a new external storage enclosure for 3.5" HDDs that uses active cooling called the Max 5G.

The enclosure has dual 80mm fans that have blue LEDs for added bling. The fans are intended to cool the HDD for better durability and performance. The LEDs can be turned off and the enclosure connects to the PC via USB 3.0 port. The enclosure supports 3.5" SATA drives up to 2TB and comes with the USB 3.0 cable.

The enclosure is intended to stand on its side with the fans facing forward and has a tilt out brace on the bottom to keep it from tipping over. The enclosure is made from metal mesh and plastic and the fans spin at 800rpm. That low speed should mean that the fans produce very little noise. Pricing and availability are unknown as this time.
