The newest Star Wars TV show fills the gap between Empire and Jedi

I don't think there has been another point in history where there has been so much new Star Wars content coming out to enjoy. The Force Awakens opened up back in December, they've already scheduled several more movies to come out over the next few years, books, games, and comics are coming out steadily, and now it looks like another TV show is in the works.

If you've not watched Star Wars: Rebels, I actually highly recommend it. It does seem like it's aimed at a younger audience than say, The Clone Wars, but there's still a lot of good Star Wars action to be seen. While they're only on the second season, there is another show that we've just learned will be coming out this summer.

I loved the original LEGO Star Wars games, as they had the perfect blend of good-natured humor while still telling the Star Wars story. We know that there is another such game in the works, but now Disney has spilled the beans on a LEGO Star Wars TV show.

The show, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, follows a family of scavengers as their youngest child discovers his natural Force ability. After finding an ancient Jedi artifact and unlocking his Force potential, his family is "thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy."

Yes, we're back to struggles against the Empire, because the show is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. What is perhaps the most interesting part of this announcement is where the show stands in the way of canon. Producer Bill Motz stated that "we are in continuity with canon, but are not canon."

So basically, they're going to be following the lore that is already established, but don't expect any of the events that transpire in the show to actually help further shape the Star Wars Universe.
