The Last Remnant Remastered heads to PS4 this year

For a 10-year-old game, The Last Remnant sure has been in the news quite a bit lately. Earlier this month, Square Enix delisted the game from Steam and other platforms. At the time, the company didn't give a reason for delisting The Last Remnant, but today, we have a better idea of what may have motivated the move. As it turns out, Square Enix is planning to re-release The Last Remnant all these years later.

The game will be released as The Last Remnant Remastered, and today, Square Enix shared a brief teaser trailer to announce the game. We don't know very much about it yet, but the trailer's YouTube description says that it's been "enhanced via an updated game engine." It also says The Last Remnant: Remastered is launching on PlayStation 4 on December 6, with no other platforms listed.

That's an interesting little twist, because The Last Remnant originally launched as an Xbox 360 exclusive back in 2008. A few months later, the game made its way to Windows, and though it was also slated for a PS3 release at one point, that version never materialized.

After 10 years, it'll finally come to a PlayStation platform, but the big question is whether or not people still want to play it. The Last Remnant brought home middling reviews on release, and Metacritic gives the Xbox 360 version an aggregate rating of 66 out of 100 based 49 reviews. In other words, it can't really be counted among Square Enix's critically acclaimed releases, which makes it an odd candidate for a remastered edition.

In any case, there's still a lot to learn about The Last Remnant Remastered ahead of its December 6 release date, so we'll be looking forward to more details. Maybe we'll see it come to other platforms after a period of exclusivity on the PS4? Time will tell, so stay tuned.
