'The Exorcist' TV show pilot order tipped

Surprise! Another classic movie is being rehashed into a modern television series, at least according to a new report. This time around it is The Exorcist, which, to be fair, first started out as a novel by the same name. Most people are more familiar with the movie, however, which came out in 1973 two years after the book's publication. That movie consistently ranks as one of the top box office hits ever.

The Exorcist (the book) was written by William Peter Blatty, and it was quickly a bestseller. This new television series, which reportedly has received a pilot order from Fox, will be based on that novel, presenting as "a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family's case of horrifying demonic possession, and confronting the face of true evil."

Jeremy Slater of Fantastic Four (2015) fame will be writing alongside two unnamed others, while Barbara Wall, James Robinson, and David Robinson will be executive producing. Some diehard fans are already expressing concern, though, that the television series will fail to live up to the movie's standard.

Further details are lacking at this time, such as whether there are any actors cast in roles and when the pilot is scheduled to air. This follows news of a planned reboot for the TV show 24, which will shed character Jack Bauer in favor of an all-new main man. Check out the timeline below for more!
