'The Division' beta had record 6.4m players

"The Division" beta came to an end today, and with its close comes an announcement from Ubisoft: more than 6.4 million gamers played the beta, making it the largest beta ever for a new title on present-gen gaming consoles. Ubisoft went on to break down some of the details, among which is that players spent an average of 5 hours playing the beta.

Tom Clancy's "The Division" has been a hotly anticipated game, something that had been previously reflected in a beta extension and more. In a statement today, Ubisoft said that gamers spent about 2 hours in the PVP zone in particular, and that nearly half of in-game agents ended up turning Rogue.

Another little detail Ubisoft dropped: more than 63,309,800 contaminated objects had been successfully extracted from the Dark Zone. Of course, it's over now, having started on February 18 for Xbox One and a day later for PC and PlayStation 4.

There were limitations on how far you could go in the game — up to rank 12 in Dark Zone and rank 8 in the regular game play. Bad news for those who plan to pick up the title, though — your progress in the beta isn't going to carry over when you get it. "The Division" full game will be available on March 8 followed later on with a trio of planned DLCs.
