The Captain Marvel trailer we've been waiting for is here

At the moment, there's a lot of anticipation behind Captain Marvel, and slowly but surely, Disney has started ramping up its marketing machine. A few weeks ago, we got our first look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel in a set of production stills from the movie, and today, Disney debuted the film's first trailer. This trailer sets the stage for the movie's narrative, giving us a brief look at the conflict Carol Danvers finds herself in the middle of.

The trailer opens with a shot of Danvers falling to Earth and through the roof of a Blockbuster Video, letting us know right away that this movie takes place in the 1990s. Danvers already appears to be outfitted in her Captain Marvel gear when she hurdles back to Earth, and a voice over from none other that Nick Fury tells us that we're currently fighting an intergalactic war.

It isn't long before we see Fury himself, without the eyepatch we've all grown used to over the past 10 years. While Fury works to recruit Danvers, we learn that she doesn't remember much of her life before that close encounter with a video store, and the trailer ends with her powering up to fight some unseen threat.

Captain Marvel has been billed as the most powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she's expected to play a big role in the ongoing conflict with Thanos that began in Infinity War earlier this year. Obviously, we don't know what kind of part she'll play in that particular conflict, but maybe a post-credits scene in Captain Marvel will set that up for us?

In addition to this trailer, Disney also published the teaser poster for Captain Marvel today, which you can see above. Captain Marvel is set to premiere on March 8, 2019 here in the US, while the fourth Avengers film will be released on May 3, 2019. Next year is going to be a big one for Captain Marvel, so stay tuned for that.
