The LG G8 ThinQ seems to have leaked in its entirety, front, back, and side to side. This leaves a bit of mystery about what the top and bottom hold for secrets, but this is basically it. This device looks like it'll have a couple of slightly curved glass front sides, up and down volume buttons and an Assistant button on the left, and a power button on the right. This device looks like it'll have a fingerprint reader on the back, too.

With MWC 2019 closing in, it’s not at all unexpected to hear smartphone makers starting to drum up the hype around their upcoming smartphones. Also unsurprising, a lot of them are buzzing around 5G. LG has already officially confirmed it will be announcing one next month and Vivo’s new “waterdrop” APEX 2019 Concept will also be its first 5G phone. Naturally, Huawei is also chiming in, but the 5G phone it will show off at MWC will have more than just one talent to show off.

Chinese smartphone makers are at it again. Last year, Vivo and OPPO tried to reinvent smartphone design with their elevating cameras. This year, Meizu and Vivo are trying to usher in the age of seamless unibody phones. The former kicked it of with the Meizu Zero yesterday and now Vivo is doing the same. But while the Vivo APEX 2019 Concept Phone is undoubtedly a thing of beauty, it naturally raises a few usability questions that we won’t be able to answer until we wrap our hands around one.

LG has this rather amusing habit of pre-announcing products before actually announcing them. Or at least revealing their features before their due time. Not that we’re complaining. That habit hasn’t changed one bit so it’s not too surprising that LG has formally confirmed it will be showing off a 5G smartphone at MWC 2019 next month. If LG is planning to wow the crowd at MWC 2019, it will probably not be with the LG G8, most likely called the LG G8 ThinQ. That is if LG is still going to stick with the G naming. Its titular flagship, the G8, codenamed “Alpha”, is probably going to be positioned as the smartphone “for everyone else” that’s not interested in fancy foldable screens, sliders, or other gimmicks. But if the details that arrived together with these 3D renders are the real deal, consumers might have little reason to prefer the LG G8 over last year’s LG V40 ThinQ.

While Samsung seems to be content on putting out no less than four variants of its upcoming Galaxy S10 flagship (plus one foldable phone), it seems that LG will, instead, be casting its net wide. In addition to a not so foldable phone rumor that’s now being disputed, LG is also rumored to have yet another unconventional handset scheduled for this month. Rather of having a foldable screen or a second screen on its back, LG’s phone will instead have an optional screen you can attach like a case.

Just a couple of days ago, OPPO started teasing a 10x hybrid zoom smartphone camera, saying that it would be revealed on January 16. That, if you haven't noticed by now, is today, but instead of the full reveal some of us were expecting, we're left with another tease. Still, OPPO has confirmed that this is indeed a 10x hybrid optical zoom camera, and it told us when we can expect to learn more about it.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Sony remained relatively silent at CES 2019 as far as mobile devices go. Instead, it preferred to focus on its key strengths, namely TVs, AV receivers, and Blu-rays. It can’t remain silent for long, though, and at MWC next month, it will have to face the music and the crowd. And what it will show on stage and on the floor could pretty much decide whether it will remain a serious contender in the smartphone race or just a name from a bygone era.

The notch may be a fact of life in modern smartphone design right now, but Asus isn't convinced it has to be in the center of the display. The upcoming Asus ZenFone 6 has reportedly leaked today, and while the phone-maker is following the crowd in slimming down bezels and devoting even more of the front of the handset to touchscreen, the way it's doing it is conspicuously different.
