ARCHOS Core S phones jump on the 18:9 screen train

ARCHOS Core S phones jump on the 18:9 screen train

It’s been a while since we last heard from the French manufacturer, but this month ARCHOS is making a big comeback. And by big, we’re talking screen size but not phone size. Oui, ARCHOS has joined the 18:9 screen aspect ratio bandwagon and it’s flaunting its new Core 55S, Core 57S, and Core 60S at the upcoming MWC conference. But while these phones are advertised to meet increased demand for bigger screens, they might fall a bit short in meeting expectations for other features.

Galaxy S9 leaves LG and Huawei reportedly shelving MWC plans

Bad news if you were hoping for some smartphone news from LG and Huawei at Mobile World Congress this year, with whispers that Samsung's big Galaxy S9 reveal is making them cautious. The expectation - set up, it's worth remembering, from previous examples of high-profile smartphone debuts at the cellular-centric Barcelona show - had been that both companies would debut new flagships within the next few weeks. Now, though, that looks unlikely.

LG V30+ alpha with AI chops to debut MWC instead of LG G7

LG V30+ alpha with AI chops to debut MWC instead of LG G7

2018 will be a confusing year for LG, both for the company itself but most especially for its customers. To address its floundering mobile phone business, the company has decided to adopt a devil may care attitude and throw all caution to the wind. It will release phones only when they think they need to and not when everyone else does. Heck, it won’t even release an LG G7, if that’s still its name, in early 2018. What it might show at MWC next month will simply be an enhanced LG V30+ instead.

Sony MWC 2018 event confirmed, CEO still committed to phones

There are a few smartphone makers that struggle year after year but refuse to throw in the towel. Sony is perhaps one of the longest-running among those. Many have already prophesied, even called for, the demise of its mobile business but by confirming its MWC 2018 press conference, it is reaffirming its commitment to smartphones. The reason for that commitment that chief executive Kaz Hirai gives, however, might make you scratch your head even more.

Xperia XZ Pro details leaked ahead of MWC 2018

Sony is one of those companies that, despite all odds and sagging mobile business revenues, continue to churn out phone after phone, year after year. In Sony’s case, however, it’s often with very little change from one phone to another. It first “biggest” change came in the Xperia XA2 announced last week, putting the fingerprint sensor on the back and, in the case of the Xperia XA2 Ultra, has two front-facing cameras. The changing trend might continue to the Xperia XZ Pro, believed to debut next month at MWC 2018, though it might be one change too many for Sony.

Galaxy S9 unveiling confirmed for MWC, Galaxy X foldable phone in 2019

CES is almost half over so anything that should happen would have already happened by now. And so it’s not exactly surprising when DJ Koh, Samsung’s mobile business president, confirmed it won’t be announcing the Galaxy S9 this week. Somewhat unexpected, however, is that Samsung will indeed announce its 2018 flagship not at a separate even but at, or specifically before, MWC 2018, with launch details promised to be revealed there as well.

Four wild new Sony phones rumored for 2018 release

A new set of Sony phones might change the companys fortunes with full-body displays and under-screen fingerprint readers. That is, if these images prove to be indicative of actual products. While a surprising number of blogs are reporting the images you see here as photographic proof of the existence of these devices, we're not quite so ready to take these images at their word - not at first, anyway.
