Huawei P10 Plus, Vernee Apollo 2 bring 8GB RAM to MWC 2017

It feels only like yesterday when flagship smartphones only had 2 or at most 3 GB of RAM inside. Actually, that was just 2 or so years ago. But now some, though not all, manufacturers are starting to play around with 6 GB of memory. And at MWC 2017 in a few weeks, there will be even those that will flaunt 8 GB of RAM. Smartphone maker Vernee has just officially confirmed that its Apollo 2 will indeed sport such a configuration. But it won’t be alone, as Huawei is also expected to show off something along those lines as well.

Samsung Galaxy S8 release date nears as “photos” quell fears

A set of photo-quality renders (not actual photos) appeared this week of the Galaxy S8 to further axe fears of a cut headphone jack. Apple tossed the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 along with a few Android devices before and since - it would seem that Samsung won't follow suit. Instead, with the assistance of the images published this week, we're able to get a look at what this forward-thinking yet conservative-tech-packed smartphone is going to look like.

Samsung’s foldable smartphone might show up at MWC 2017

With the Galaxy S8 already scheduled not debut at MWC 2017 later this month, the attention of Samsung fans might be focused instead on the Galaxy Tab S3. However, the spotlight might actually be hogged by a device that might not even be released this year. Years in the making, Samsung is now rumored to be showing off some prototypes of its elusive foldable displays and devices, specifically a foldable smartphone, at MWC 2017. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s actually close to launching one this year.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 could support the S Pen stylus

With the Galaxy S8 out of the running for MWC 2017's best mobile device, save for a rumored minute-long teaser video, it seems that Samsung will be throwing everything except the kitchen sink on the Galaxy Tab S3 tablet instead. In addition to some of the best specs to come to tablets, the Galaxy Tab S3 is now also tipped to be compatible with the company's Wacom-powered S Pen stylus, making it a direct rival of Apple's iPad Pro tablets and raising questions about Samsung's own Galaxy Note line.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 hinted in MWC 2017 invite

Samsung might not be unveiling the Galaxy S8 at MWC in a few weeks, but that doesn’t mean it will be leaving fans of its mobile devices orphaned. The absence of a high-end smartphone is, perhaps, the perfect chance to unveil a high-end tablet instead. And that, indeed, seems to be the case with Samsung’s MWC 2017 press event, which, based on the invitation that just went out, will be focused on a tablet. Said tablet is most likely the Galaxy Tab S3 that just recently made its way through the FCC.

Galaxy S8 reaches peak leak: release date, specs, and features

The Samsung Galaxy S8 seems to have reached the point in its pre-release timeline where we're privy to most of its release details. This is before Samsung has shared much of anything officially, of course, but with a phone this highly anticipated, there's little chance (it seems) that data leaks would occur. As such, we're running down all the details that we've gathered over the past several weeks, lining them up into the best picture of what Samsung will show off this Spring in the Galaxy S line of smartphones.

Xiaomi is skipping MWC 2017, Western expansion in question

Xiaomi is skipping MWC 2017, Western expansion in question

Truth be told, Xiaomi has never really been a regular at MWC. Its first major presence, as far as smartphones go was last year when it unveiled the Xiaomi Mi 5 at MWC 2016. It seems that it will also be its only presence so far. Xiaomi is believed to skip the world’s biggest mobile tech event this year and the unofficial reason is that it doesn’t have any new phone to show anyway. It does, however, also spark questions about the company’s foray into Western, especially the US, smartphone markets, especially in light of recent events.

Sony to reveal not one but five Xperia models at MWC 2017

Sony to reveal not one but five Xperia models at MWC 2017

We’ll let that title sink in for a while. Sony, who has been struggling in the smartphone market for years, doesn’t just have one, not even just two smartphones ready for next month. According to this latest leak coming from Japan, the OEM will actually announce five, yes five, Android smartphones at MWC 2017 in Barcelona next month. Of course, it doesn’t say when those would be made available or what name they’ll take, but it’s still a rather big drop for a smartphone maker whose devices aren’t exactly selling like pancakes.

BlackBerry “Mercury” to be unveiled at MWC 2017, for real

The Samsung Galaxy S8’s absence from MWC next month is probably a relief for many smartphone companies, as they no longer need to fight over the limelight with one of the biggest giants in the market. While that doesn’t really change anyone’s schedules, they can at least make a bigger noise. One that’s sure to try and raise the roof is BlackBerry, who just teased on their shiny new BlackBerry Mobile Twitter account, that the “Mercury”, real name still to be announced, will debut at MWC 2017. For real this time.

Galaxy S8 will be skipping MWC 2017

Samsung might be confident that it has pinned down the cause of the its exploding Galaxy Note 7, blamed on battery manufacturing defects, and its steps to make sure they don't happen again. It might not be that confident, however, in the timing of those newer, more stringent safety measures. The company's mobile head Koh Dong-jin revealed shortly after its press conference that the Galaxy S8, its next flagship, won't be unveiled at MWC this year. In fact, he doesn't say when it will be unveiled.
