MWC 2015

Yesterday, the Galaxy S6 was leaked in all its prototype glory. Still cased in bubble wrap, we got our first look at what might be the next flagship from Samsung. Now, we’re getting a better look at the device, and a comparison to the Galaxy S6 Edge. Side by side (edge to edge?), the two phones give us our first look at Samsung’s new two-phone flagship scheme. Oddly enough, while the thought of a curved screen might not appeal to you, these pics might change your mind.

With MWC right around the corner, there’s been a lot of speculation about what we’ll get from Samsung. Their incoming Galaxy S6 is expected to be a lot of things. We may even get tow models from Samsung right from the jump. Leading into MWC, we’re also seeing a lot of leaks, but the latest has everyone buzzing. What we see this time around is billed as a finished prototype of the new S6, but there’s enough reason to be skeptical.

All this dust-up over HTC’s new One handset seems to have no effect on the company. While you’d assume their leaked handset would annoy or anger them, they really don’t seem phased at all. In fact, their global communications boss says it’s small potatoes compared to the rest of what they’re ready to roll out. What that might be — nobody knows. We’ve all got suspicions, but HTC definitely has something up their sleeve for MWC this March. Any guesses?

One of the most pressing problems smartphone users have these days is the battery life. We've seen a lot of addons, tricks, and gimmicks that aim to extend our smartphone's active use. Manufacturers are also trying to either cram bigger and bigger batteries or include battery saving modes in their devices. Kyocera is attacking the problem from a slightly different angle. At MWC next week, it will reveal a prototype smartphone that, besides being rugged, also include solar charging capabilities at almost no extra cost.

Sony leaked its own product information about the new Xperia Z4 Tablet ahead of its official release. Sony's Xperia Lounge app showed the new Xperia Z4 Tablet before it was taken down. At least the source should be reliable because it's coming directly from Sony. The news just came a little sooner than Sony would have liked. As for the leaked details about improvements over the previous model, it looks like it will have a 2K display, a faster processor, and longer battery life according to the photos.

MWC 2015 is coming, so LG is doing what it does best: announcing new devices even before the event takes place. The Korean manufacturer may not have an LG G4 prepared next week, but it will try to make us forget about that by distracting us with other devices. For the Barcelona mobile event, LG will be showcasing its new roster of four mid-range smartphones that try to bring LG's popular design and user experiences found mostly in the higher end to a new generation of budget handsets.

HTC has already confirmed that it will officially reveal its next generation One smartphone at Mobile World Conference in a little over a week, but it seems like one German retailer jumped the gun and accidentally posted the specs and official images on their website early. While the product pages on Cyberport's site for the HTC One M9 have now been taken down, it just wasn't quick enough. The fact that it's this close to HTC's March 1st unveiling, and that retailers often some info early enough to have product listings ready, seems to improve the chances that this is the real deal.

This week the folks at Samsung are preparing for release of the Galaxy S6 with a new teaser video. This is "The Next Galaxy", as they've said the past several years, the next big thing to come from Samsung in smartphone form. This device appears to be very flat and without edge-faring displays. There's a second phone, more than likely, making this a double-release, but for now we're limited to this video bit. It's very short, and really doesn't say one whole heck of a lot.

As we count down the days to MWC 2015, it's natural to see companies kick their marketing campaigns into high gear, sometimes with absurd results. Take for example HTC's latest "teaser", basically a fill in the blanks game with nothing much in terms of clues. Of course, that's not going to stop anyone from speculating, or wishing, what it's all about. Given how things are going, it could very well be the rumored HTC One M9 Plus. Or an HTC Tablet. Or anything for that matter.

It would appear that the long phone - the phone with a horizontal back - is coming from Lenovo for real. This is what's being rumored as the Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro, otherwise known as the Lenovo Vibe Shot. It works with a 16-megapixel camera at its back and is - clearly - made for taking photos and video. This phone has been leaked in three color combinations - silver/white, black/silver, and red/black. They're made of glass and metal, if it wasn't already clear from the first render you see here.

After a series of leaked images and rumored specs, HTC is just about ready to unveil their next phone. In addition to those leaks and rumors, some have been quietly suggesting HTC’s newest won’t be called a ‘One’. While we won’t assume it’ll be an M9, HTC is revealing it’s a One-branded device. In a recent post to their UK Twitter feed, HTC says the new One is coming, and it’ll be here March 1. That’s when HTC is holding their MWC presser.
