RTX 2060 revealed for starting price of $349

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 was revealed at CES 2019 this evening, and with it, a whole bunch of Turing architecture and ray tracing and all sorts of other good stuff too. This GPU has 52T Tensor FLOPs, 5 gigarays per second, and 6GB G6. And while generally I'd wait until the end of the article to include the price, here it's too extremely important - RTX 2060 costs $349 - imagine that!

HP Chromebook 14 steals Acer’s AMD thunder, Chromebook x360 14 G1 coming

HP Chromebook 14 steals Acer’s AMD thunder, Chromebook x360 14 G1 coming

It seems that the age of AMD-powered Chromebooks is coming. Granted, two doesn’t really make for a new trend but that’s still two more than none. But while Acer boasted to be the first to announce one such Chromebook, HP will actually have the first bite of that market. The new HP Chromebook 14 will land on shelves first and it will truly put to the test whether AMD’s system-on-chip will have more to say, no to mention more battery life, than Intel’s equivalents.

HP EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor keeps shoulder surfers out

HP EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor keeps shoulder surfers out

It isn’t just smartphones that are prone to having curious bystanders taking a sneak peek at the screen. Even more critical are computer screens in offices or, worse, public spaces that may be susceptible to shoulder surfing by unauthorized people, be it hackers, spies, or just curious passers-by. To help combat that, HP has developed together with 3M its “Sure View” privacy screen technology which it is now putting on its new EliteDisplay E243p, up for display, no pun intended, here at CES 2019.

Motorola Modular Power System hands-on: Plug and play

Motorola Modular Power System hands-on: Plug and play

Motorola has a new set of devices at CES 2019, and they're not smartphones. They've teamed up with the folks at Schumacher Electric Corp to create the Motorola Modular Power System. We've seen Motorola go modular before - with their Moto Z collection of smartphones, still in production today. Now it would seem that they're going out a whole new door - sort of. This isn't the same sort of situation as Lenovo's Motorola smartphones - it's slightly more about branding - but no less interesting.

Caseta by Lutron Fan Speed Control gets your ceiling fan online

The Internet of Things, voice control, and having everything in an app is all well and good, but sometimes you just want a good old-fashioned switch to control your fans and lights. Lutron's new Caséta Fan Speed Control isn't quite an old-school wall switch as you'd know it - they don't tend to have wireless connectivity, for instance - but it should be straightforward all the same.

Acer Swift 7 design finally gives justice to its name

Acer Swift 7 design finally gives justice to its name

When something is described as “swift”, it is often expected to be lightweight if not also thin. After all, few bulky and heavy objects are fast enough to be considered swift. And while Acer’s Swift series of notebooks aren’t exactly paperweights, there’s always room to stretch the envelope even further. At CES 2019, the company is putting out the Acer Swift 7 (SF714-52T) and from its nearly bezel-less screen, lightweight yet sturdy construction, and technical specs, it definitely earns its speedy moniker.

Acer Chromebook 315 is world’s first AMD-powered Chrome OS device

Acer Chromebook 315 is world’s first AMD-powered Chrome OS device

Up until recently, Chromebooks were mostly regarded to be the successors of netbooks, smaller or weaker cousins of laptops built for very basic use and low prices. In the past two years or so, the platform has outgrown that image and has branched not only into new form factors as well as more powerful hardware, the latter mostly made up of a very small number of Intel-powered devices. Not one to be left behind, AMD has teamed up with Acer to build the Acer Chromebook 315, the first of its kind to run not only on an AMD processor but also a Radeon graphics chip.

Apple greets CES 2019 with snarky iPhone privacy billboard

Apple greets CES 2019 with snarky iPhone privacy billboard

The 2019 Consumer Electronics Show kicks off in earnest on Monday, and like every year before Apple won't be participating, instead preferring its own carefully planned media events. Despite this, the company has clearly made itself known this year with a large billboard ad placed right next to the Las Vegas Convention Center, where CES is taking place. The ad isn't for a new Apple product, rather it's throwing shade at other companies in attendance by highlighting Apple's privacy policies.
