Surface Pro 3, Type Cover prices slashed for schools

Chromebooks get a lot of attention from educational institutions, but Microsoft wants to make sure its Surface Pro 3 isn't left out of the mix. This morning the company has announced a discount on both its new slate and the Type Cover keyboards for educational institutions.

The 10-percent discount falls under the Surface for Education Program, and is available to institutions in the US, UK, and Canada. Under it, schools can get the Surface Pro 3 64GB with a Type Cover for $839 USD rather than $929 USD, for example. The products have to be purchased through Microsoft's Authorized Device Resellers.

In this case, Microsoft clarifies that an educational institution is an accredited entity that solely educates enrolled students. In order to get the discount, these organizations must order at least five devices, as well.

Microsoft has hailed its tablet as a good choice for schools, saying that it already enjoys a fair bit of popularity amongst such users. The company says that the Surface Pro 3 is Common Core compliant, which allows the device to be used for things like Smarter Balanced state assessments and administering PARCC.
